Vintage Lovers Cards for Valentine’s on display at Il-Hagar in Gozo

A selection of lovers vintage postcards from 100-years ago feature in the new exhibit set up by the Gozo Philatelic Society, especially for Valentine’s Day at Il-Hagar Museum in Gozo.

The selection on display in the GPS showcase on level-1, is mostly from the World War I period and offers an interesting insight into social aspects from around that era.


The exhibit can be visited till after Valentine’s Day. This cultural centre, which is located in St George’s Square, Victoria is open 9am to 5pm seven days a week – with no entrance fee.

Vintage lovers’ cards at Il-Ħaġar

An exhibition of vintage lovers’ cards by the Gozo Philatelic Society is currently on display on level 1 at Il-Ħaġar museum in Victoria.

The exhibits are mostly from the World War I period featuring mostly servicemen. The cards are mainly hand-coloured with a few having gilding decorations. Examples include one card chronographed in Berlin by Raphael Tuck and others produced by Dresden’s Stengel and Platine Noyer in Paris.

Being 100 years old, the cards are of special significance to people who research social aspects.

The exhibition is on until Valentine’s Day. Il-Ħaġar is open Monday to Sunday from 9am to 5pm. Entrance is free.
